The Emergence of Grammar in Communicating Autonomous Robotic Agents
نویسنده
چکیده
Over the past five years, the topic of the origins of language is gaining prominence as one of the big unresolved questions of cognitive science. Artificial Intelligence can make a major contribution to this problem by working out precise, testable models using grounded robotic agents which interact with a real world environment and communicate among themselves or with humans about this environment. A potential side effect op this basic research are new technologies for man-machine interaction based on the negotiation of shared conventions. Official reference: Steels, L. Are Autonomous Mobile Robots Able to Take Over Construction? A Review
Although construction has been known as a highly complex application field for autonomous robotic systems, recent advances in this field offer great hope for using robotic capabilities to develop automated construction. Today, space research agencies seek to build infrastructures without human intervention, and construction companies look to robots with the potential to improve construction qua...
متن کاملEmergence of Grammatical Conventions in an Agent Population using a Simplified Tree Adjoining Grammar
This paper describes a population of communicating agents, rewarded for successful dialogs. Agents encode and decode messages about their environment using the TAG formalism. Experimental results show that lexical and word order conventions spread under suitable conditions.
متن کاملEvolving Cooperation of Simple Agents for the Control of an Autonomous Robot
A distributed and scalable architecture for the control of an autonomous robot is presented in this work. In our proposal a whole robotic agent is divided into sub-agents. Every sub-agent is coded into a very simple neural network, and controls one sensor/actuator element of the robot. Sub-agents learn by evolution how to handle their sensor/actuator and how to cooperate with the rest of sub-ag...
متن کاملOn the Emergence of Scientific Grammar in Iran
Writing the grammar of a language is one of the most significant outputs of linguistic studies. In Iran, it is Avicenna (Ibn-e Sina) who is credited with the first such compilation of the Persian language. Understanding the weaknesses associated with the traditional trends of grammar writing in Iran, contemporary Iranian linguists adopted the modern Western approach following the Chomskyan Turn...
متن کاملEmergence of net-grammar in communicating agents.
Evolution of symbolic language and grammar is studied in a network model. Language is expressed by words, i.e. strings of symbols, which are generated by agents with their own symbolic grammar system. Agents communicate with each other by deriving and accepting words via rewriting rule set. They are ranked according to their communicative effectiveness: an agent which can derive less frequent a...
